The first inverter I used was the Allen Bradley PowerFlex 525 Inverter. Attention, we need to prepare 1 USB to RS485 Cable.

MicroLogix 1100 PLC has built-in RS232/RS485 port, you can plug the power cord directly into the MiniDIN 8P port, or use the 1763-NC01 extension cable

The PLC model I use is MicroLogix 1100 and FUJI Frenic Mini inverter, other FUJI Frenic Series do the same (Frenic Mini, Frenic Eco, Frenic Multi, Frenic MEGA)

FUJI Frenic Modbus RTU Configuration

In order for the inverter to run in Modbus-RS485 mode, we need to set the following parameters:

  • H30 = 3 (VFD Control via RS485 Port)
  • Y01 = 1 (Slave Address)
  • Y02 = 0
  • Y03 = 2
  • Y04 = 2 (9600bps)
  • Y05 = 0 (data: 8bit)
  • Y06 = 1 (parity check: Even)
  • Y07 = 1 (stop bit: 1)
  • Y10 = 0 (Modbus RTU Selection)
  • Y99 = 0
FUJI Frenic Modbus Address Table

Hello everyone. Today thelivingchristmascompany.com would like to continue to write a tutorial for you to use the Allen Bradley Micrologix 1100 PLC to control the iG5A Series inverter of LS through “Modbus RTU RS485” communication.

Micrologix PLC has a built-in RS232/RS485 port, you can use Cable 1763-NC01 or you can use an electrical cord, pins plugged directly into the PLC port is fine.ư

Micrologix 1100 & LS iG5A VFD “Wiring Diagram”

LS iG5A VFD Modbus RTU Settings

We need to set the following parameters to be able to control the LS iG5A Inverter by Modbus RTU

Project Parameters Setting

  • Drv = 3 (Motor Control via Communication Port)
  • Frq = 7 (Frequency Reference via Communication Port)
  • I59 = 0 (Modbus RTU Selection)
  • I60 = 1 ( Slave Number = 1)
  • I61 = 3 (9600bps)
  • I62 = 0
  • I65 = 2 (Even/Stop bit=1)
LS iG5A Mobdus Registers Address

+ Frequency Reference Address = 5

+ Motor Control Address = 6

  • Set Word 6 = 2 > Forward Run
  • Set Word 6 = 4 > Reverse Run
  • Set Word 6 = 0 > Stop Run

+ Read “3 Data Output registers” consecutively starting from Output Current = 9
